THE 10 minute photo shoot

It was around 8 years ago, at the height of my high-volume overwork era that I discovered my delight in the 10 minute photo shoot. A playful service that I typically only grant to friends, past clients, or inspiring strangers on the streets- the 10 minute shoot is fast, fun, and surprisingly creative. The time limit applies just the right amount of pressure on the outcome, while simultaneously lowering expectations (which, as we know, are requirements for making satisfying art).

This shoot with C was one of those impromptu 10 minute delights. During my workshop at the Graphi Studio castle in the Italian Dolomites, there were photographers everywhere having “playtime”.

During a “catch my breath” moment, my brain decided that it wanted to create some quiet and introspective stills in the midst of chaos. So I did just that.

…actually I think it was closer to 7 minutes in this case.

I especially loved these effortless-feeling captures of C, as did she. She’s now the proud owner of a fine art print from this set that I lovingly title “Window Gazes and Scar Stories.”
